Read how we helped Orsted seamlessly migrate data away from their integrated SAP setup utilising our expertise in SAP SLO services and IT infrastructure
Involvement of Netcare International as Partner and Vendor
In 2019, Ørsted, a global leader in renewable energy, divested its electricity distribution business, Radius, to SEAS-NVE, a cooperative utility company. This strategic move was part of Ørsted’s plan to concentrate on renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. A critical component of this divestiture involved the use of SAP System Landscape Optimization (SLO) services and an EU tender process for new SAP infrastructure and operation services.
Background
Ørsted aimed to streamline its focus on green energy by divesting non-core assets. Radius, responsible for power distribution to about one million customers, was a significant part of this portfolio realignment. The transaction with SEAS-NVE required careful planning to ensure a seamless transition.
SAP System Landscape Optimization (SLO) services
The separation of Radius from Ørsted’s integrated SAP systems was a complex task, necessitating the use of SAP SLO services. These services are designed to facilitate efficient data separation, migration, and integration during corporate restructuring.
Challenges and Solutions
The project presented several challenges:
Data Segregation: Precisely identifying and separating Radius’s data from Ørsted’s systems without affecting other business operations.
Minimal Downtime : Ensuring business continuity with minimal disruption during the transition.
Compliance and Security : Maintaining data integrity and adhering to regulatory requirements.
To address these challenges, Ørsted utilized SAP SLO services for:
Data Carve-out: Isolating Radius’s data from the central SAP environment.
System Conversion: Transferring data and processes into SEAS-NVE’s SAP landscape.
Testing and Validation: Ensuring the accuracy and functionality of the separated systems.
EU Tender for SAP Infrastructure
Ørsted issued an EU tender for new SAP infrastructure and operation services. This tender aimed to establish a robust IT foundation to support the remaining operations. The tender process ensured competitive bidding, securing high-quality services for Ørsted’s SAP infrastructure needs.
Role of Netcare International
Netcare International played a crucial role as both a partner and vendor in this process. Their expertise in SAP SLO services and IT infrastructure was instrumental in achieving the following outcomes:
Data Migration and Integrity: Netcare International ensured that all data migrations were carried out smoothly, maintaining data integrity and adhering to strict regulatory compliance.
Minimal Operational Disruption : Through meticulous planning and execution, Netcare International helped Ørsted achieve minimal operational disruption, ensuring business continuity.
Comprehensive Testing and Validation : Netcare International conducted rigorous testing and validation processes, guaranteeing that all systems were fully operational post-transition.
Outcomes
The project was completed successfully, with Radius’s systems and data smoothly transitioned to SEAS-NVE, ensuring uninterrupted service for its customers.
The EU tender resulted in a resilient SAP infrastructure, supporting Ørsted’s ongoing renewable energy operations. The integration of SAP SLO services ensured data integrity, regulatory compliance, and minimal operational disruption.
Conclusion
This case highlights the critical role of SAP SLO services, strategic procurement through EU tenders, and the indispensable contributions of partners like Netcare International in managing complex IT transitions, ensuring business continuity, and supporting corporate realignment goals.

Netcare International played a pivotal role in preparing, establishing, and operating the complex SAP environment required to make the divesture a great success and to manage the tasks within time and budget.
Together with key Ørsted employees, they completed a 24-month EU-tender for the technical infrastructure necessary to operate the SAP solution being carved out of Ørsted’s infrastructure. They established the required SAP infrastructure in Ørsted for trial and testing the SAP SLO carveout. It was a critical step, which was managed with a successful handover of the final SAP infrastructure and operational procedures to the SEAS-NVE. It has marked a significant achievement for both sides.
Ørsted A/S is at the largest multinational energy company in Denmark.
