Spotlight on Exceptional SAP DMS Support: An interview with Adam Morva

NEWS

How a colleague became the quiet superhero behind our enterprise client SAP S4/Hana Document Management System (DMS) upgrade

In any large organisation, successful digital operations rely not only on systems and processes, but also on the people who keep those systems running and support thousands of users behind the scenes.

During the recent SAP DMS upgrade at our client, one colleague stood out as the person who showed up every day with calmness, expertise, and a touch of humour that made even the toughest moments manageable:

Adam Morva  – A supporter whose work has been praised by end-users as “going above and beyond”, “a saving angel”, and “a true problem-solver.”

We sat down with Adam to talk about his approach to support, the challenges of major upgrades, and what a great user experience really means.

An Interview with Adam Morva

“Usually, I start my day in a telephone booth…”

When asked to describe his daily routine, Adam began with a confession:

“Typically, I start my days in a telephone booth: I hide my blue and red suit and cape under normal people clothes… Just kidding, I don’t wear glasses.”

Behind the humour, a highly structured approach emerged:

“I log on, assess my tasks – mails, tickets, Teams messages – and make a rough plan. It’s like a medical triage. You can’t treat patients in chronological order. You need to quickly judge the severity of issues and handle them according to impact.”

This is one of the reasons users describe Adam as dependable: he knows what to prioritise and solves the right problems fast.

Preparing for Upgrades: “Think of the forgotten places”

The SAP Document Management System (DMS) upgrade to S4/Hana brought change, new functionality, and a sharp increase in user questions. Adam’s preparation went far beyond the basics.

“Upgrades have pitfalls in unexpected, forgotten places. You must remember the obvious, but also those fringe cases nobody thinks about.”

He adds:

“These activities are time-consuming. Earlier in my career, during a productive SAP migration, we once worked 25 hours straight, slept four, then worked 25 hours again.”

This experience is part of why he is so calm today when critical incidents arise.

Why He Loves Support Work

Adam’s motivation is really simple:

“Some people chomp on KitKats ignoring the dividing lines between the sticks of chocolate. Meanwhile, I need to help people and understand systems and fix things. I’m weird like that.”

And, for us, this is attitude of true problem-solver.

Handling Pressure in Mission-Critical Systems

SAP-related incidents can be intense, and Adam has seen it all:

“SAP is serious stuff. I’ve seen grown, manly men panic and cry in downtime calls. I’m used to these critical issues now and handle situations calmly and rationally.”

This ability to remain grounded has made Adam a trusted point of contact for both users and colleagues.

The Hardest Part of the DMS Upgrade

When asked about the toughest challenge, Adam didn’t mention technical complexity, but communication.

“There was a lot of change in functionality, which led to an explosion of tickets. The trickiest part was communicating these changes to users, without being able to give every single one a 30/60-minute one-on-one session.”

Despite this, users consistently said they felt supported, informed, and guided.

Staying Sharp in a Fast-Moving Tech Landscape

Continuous learning is part of Adam’s daily routine:

“I regularly read up on new materials: books, SAP notes, forum posts. And now you can ask an LLM about arcane tech things and pray it doesn’t hallucinate.”

Curiosity remains a key part of success.

What Great Customer Support Means

When asked to define great support, Adam put it simply:

“Great customer support = Happy users.”

A value that every support professional should relate to.

A Message to Users and IT Colleagues

Adam sees one recurring challenge in IT: misalignment between user needs and developer assumptions.

“One of the biggest hurdles in IT is the disconnect between what the users need and the solutions IT people think of. I urge everyone to try to understand the user’s daily tasks.”

He also offered a practical tip:

“A big chunk of time is spent figuring out what problem the user has. You can save a lot of time by describing the issue accurately.”

What He’s Most Proud Of

It’s not the complex tickets, the long nights, or the system stability that Adam highlights as his proudest moments.

It’s something much simpler, and much more meaningful.

“The moments at the end of calls when people say goodbye and thank me for solving the issues tormenting them.”

That human gratitude is the real driver.

Celebrating the People Behind the Systems

Adam’s story highlights a truth every organisation knows but doesn’t celebrate often enough:

✨ Great systems rely on great people.
✨ Support is a human craft.
✨ And recognition matters.

The DMS upgrade was smoother thanks to Adam’s patience, experience, humour, and commitment to helping users succeed in their daily work.

To Adam: thank you for everything you do. Your impact is felt across our customer.
